Calcomp Equipment Services took over the old Calcomp Australia over 10 years ago. Since then they have become an HP Design Jet EXPERT Reseller with HP in terms of sales, services, repairs, networking etc of the Graphics and technical plotters.

Calcomp Equipment is also a major seller and repairer of Canon Pro Graphics wide format printers and CAD Plotters. Our customers include many major Sydney Architectural and Civil Engineering firms, Local Councils, many State Government Departments including Department of Public Works, NSW Police, Energy Australia and Federal Govt Departments including Bureau of meterology, Dept of Defence, Dept of Lands, Navy, Universities and TAFE colleges.

Calcomp also carries a wide range of Plotter consumables including Ink Tanks, print heads, wide format speciality papers and media.

I would just like to express our thanks to Chris Poulton of Calcomp for keeping our plotter alive for so long!

We bought our Hewlett Packard 755 CM [Postscript] Plotter in 1997 to replace an older HP Design Jet which used a carousel of ink pens which had to be regularly cleaned and refilled from bottles of ink {!} and we were overawed at the time with the new plotter's smooth high tech ink cartridge {!} design.

For almost 10 years this magic piece of gear performed day in and day out. Then, in 2006, it started showing signs of strain and started rejecting cartridges, giving error messages as quiet agonizing calls for help.

But who to turn to for help?
HP helpdesk-yes, but no-only help in the form of sympathetic phone calls with technical staff in India. Numerous frustrating calls over many days finally led us to locally based Calcomp Equipment Services-and within days the problem had been diagnosed and new parts installed giving our plotter a new lease of life.

All was at peace with the world until 2009 when pretty much everything in the plotter heaved a collective sigh and it excommunicated itself. No amount of cleaning, pleading, trying new cartridges and restarting the plotter helped this time. The cry to Calcomp went out again...Sorry, can't guarantee getting new parts these days the plotter's just too old. You have three choices- try to import new parts with no guarantee of a quick outcome, use second hand parts, or consider buying a new plotter. We decided to have Calcomp install second hand parts while we contemplated the cost of a new plotter.

A thorough diagnosis, a second hand ink cartridge carriage, a new drive ribbon and a second hand motherboard... and...no, not second rate results....but plots that are clearer, more highly coloured and are produced much faster. The plotter is performing better than new!

We are still researching options for a new plotter when our plotter finally goes into old age meltdown, but for now, we are back in action and very satisfied. The cost of doing this second hand overhaul was reasonable too. If the plotter is still standing next time it grinds to a halt, we would consider another second hand overhaul before going new.
